Allan McGregor
Dunfermline Athletic, Rangers, Scotland, St Johnstone
Hometown: Edinburgh, Scotland
In September 2007 Allan McGregor signed a new four year contract with Rangers. Allan continued to be Rangers number one the following season, despite the arrival and subsequent departure of former Manchester United keeper Roy Carroll. Rangers progressed to the quarter-finals of the 2008 UEFA Cup after McGregor's superb display in the fourth round second-leg match against Werder Bremen, which drew praise from the Rangers manager. He made his 100th appearance for Rangers in a league match against Hibernian in March 2008.
McGregor signed another new contract keeping him at the club until 2013. He captained the club for the first Scottish Premier League match of the 2008-09 season against Falkirk due to the absences of captain Barry Ferguson and senior players David Weir and Carlos Cuéllar. McGregor was a regular in the side, playing in the 2009 Scottish League Cup Final defeat to Celtic, up until the Boozegate scandal which saw him and Barry Ferguson dropped by club and country. He played what was to be his last game of that season on 21 March, a 2-2 draw at home to Hearts.
The fans favourite went on to win back his place as the Rangers first team Goalkeeper and although continuing to play an impeccable Role between the sticks, the majority of players and fans see him as the clubs best finisher..............if you know what we mean?
